My name is Patrick Ebert, a life-long fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the great game of baseball. If you’re taking the time to read this, there’s a very good chance you love the game of baseball like I do. From all of the scouts, coaches, players and family members that I speak to, that is a common bond we all share.
For me that interest starts at the beginning, building a successful franchise from the bottom up. Allan Simpson once told me that his interest in baseball focused on the draft because it was the bridge that connected amateur and professional baseball, and that quote really hit home for me and made me realize that is the exact reason why I too find the draft so fascinating.
Unfortunately I never had the talent to pursue such a career playing the game, so I have to satisfy the armchair general manager/scouting director in me.
You may recognize my work from Brewerfan.net and/or the Perfect Game family of sites that includes PG Crosschecker. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian Kapellusch for creating Brewerfan.net which gave me the platform to share my thoughts, and also Jerry Ford, who found me at Brewerfan.net when his son Ben pitched for the Brewers and gave me the opportunity to write about baseball professionally.
This site isn’t meant to stop anything I do with Brewerfan.net or Perfect Game. This site is my first attempt at web design (HTML/CSS for those that knows what that means), which is something I have been meaning to do for a long, long time.
For those of you that don’t know, writing about baseball is not my day job, as I earn my keep with my loving wife and growing family serving as the Senior Graphic Designer for Summerfest, an annual 11-day music festival held on Milwaukee’s lakefront which has been dubbed by the Guiness Book of World Reords as “The World’s Largest Music Festival.”
If you’re interested in my design work, I welcome you to visit ebertdesign.com, which will be the second site I overhaul with my newfound web design skills. What is currently up at least provides my resume and portfolio for you to get an idea of my abilities and style as a graphic designer.
I have always gravitated towards art, but baseball is my passion, and I hope to share that passion here on 5 Tool Talk. I welcome you to send me your own thoughts, and I hope you like some of the features I have included with this new venture. Email questions may be subjected to a mailbag feature, as I do not have a forum tied into this site, and at this point in time, I don’t plan to.
Thanks for your interest. I hope to keep it piqued.
