I am proud to announce that I will be joining Perfect Game on a full-time basis starting in mid-May. Because of that, I will not be posting further updates here on 5 Tool Talk, but will keep the site around for comments at least through the draft.
I want to thank everyone that has takent he time to follow me here at 5 Tool Talk. You're here because you love reading about draft-eligible prospects, and I hope you continue to do so as I make the permanent transition over at Perfect Game. I'm pretty excited to be part of a team that includes another recent full-time hire, Kendall Rogers, who covers the college game. Ben Collman and Todd Gold are going to become bigger names on the high school side of things as their names continue to spread given the amount of quality work they do. David Rawnsley and Allan Simpson have been in place for quite a few years, and Jeff Dahn is another writer that I believe will become more of a household name among draftniks given the quality of his work. And these are just the writers whose names you may be/become familiar with given their online presence, as a lot more kudos deserve to be spread to the entire Perfect Game staff for their endless and tireless work.
At this point in time I don't know what I'm going to do with this site. I don't think it's fair that I put my own time here since PG has brought me on in a full-time capacity, but at the same time I don't want to just shut this down given the amount of time I have already invested into it. There are a lot of notes covering the past three draft years, as my online coverage dates back to 2002 (and actually before that) when my work was posted at Brewerfan.net.
There won't be an updated top prospect list, mock draft, notes sections, or things like that, but I'll keep the site up for the comments section alone. The comments on the last mock draft have been piling up since February, which has become a unique mini-hub for all conversation that takes place here at 5 Tool Talk.
This development has actually prevented me to conduct my usual spring scouting trips, as I had hope to catch UConn play Notre Dame in South Bend last weekend, and have toyed with the idea of seeing Bubba Starling in the Kansas City area as well as Nick Burdi and Charlie Tilson outside of Chicago. However, this opportunity will alow me to take a lot more events first-hand, starting with the Perfect Game National showcase in mid-June, which is easily the best collection of draft-eligible high school talent.
I'm open to suggestions to how this site is handled moving forward. In the meantime, thanks again for your support.
